This year (2013) celebrates 26 years since the launch of the Society in July 1987. Our principle guests were Cllr. Mrs. D Burton-Jenkins, at that time Mayor of Fareham, the Lady Mayoress, and the Rev. John Sturges JP. The Society was a consequence of a WEA Local History course held in Stubbington over several years. Outcome of the course work was the publication of two booklets on 17th and mid 19th century Stubbington.
We were fortunate to have as our first President, Professor R.B.Wernham, Emeritus Professor of Modern History, Oxford who supported the Society with great enthusiasm and additionally helped guide the activities of a small research group which has gone on to produce further publications of local interest.
